Hello everyone, welcome to Take a Fashion Seat. So tonight I'm going to talk about for the third time brand designer Calvin Klein. So guys, I've talked about him on two of my segments. This is the third one. So this one is basically Calvin Klein through the years. So we're going to go through the years, guys, when he first started. So he started in the 60s. That's when the brand started. So Vanity Fair did an amazing article. The Zoe Report did an amazing article and thrift it.com. So we're going to go through those three so we can get through the years together. Okay. So we're going to start with Vanity Fair. And this is reference to Vanity Fair article Calvin Klein through the years. Okay. And it's basically, it says with Jeff's $10,000 to fund what would become his namesake label in 1968. Calvin Klein couldn't have anticipated that his brand would become one of the first names of American fashion. Can you believe this? Bam! That's how it starts. Like this, like $10,000, everyone. So you have to believe in your project. Any project you believe in can be manifested. So this one was manifested through the years. And it talked about how his life through the years, how the brand and had shifted and been was promoted, and how the culture was up and down. So he did campaigns in the 70s, the 80s, the 90s. Now they shifted the cultural landscape in the 80s and 90s. And the models um he handpicked them. Fashion icons ahead of New York Fashion Week. Calvin Klein would be ready. He picked, you know, some of the most amazing models. Now, hand-picked by Calvin Klein, um, his partner Barry Schwartz, um, Brazilian designer Francisco Costa ushered the brand into a new era. This was in 2003, with a collection centered on simplicity. So he did that. That was um during that time. Now, Jennifer Lawrence is an undisputable A-list star today. Um, she um Calvin, she wore Calvin on the red carpet um collection dress at the Academy Awards, um, put her on the radar. So down through the years, he's had the most amazing models to let's wear his dresses, um, including names like Claire Daines, Emma Stone, Diane Krueger, Gwyneth Peltrow, and so many more. Now, in the 90s, um, things became like underwear-driven, if you know what I mean. Um, models lounced around in a lot of um underwear broken styles, and also they did um, you know, like different, he had a lot at that point. He was doing more than just clothing and shoes. He was basically on billboards and doing amazing things. Um, he was doing fragrances as well, as well as jeans, um, and underwear ads in 2006. So he it was just evolving. And when you would go to New York and you go to Times Square, I remember seeing like you could see his um iconic billboards with his name on them. You still do, you still see his iconic billboards. I mean, he hasn't changed now in 1995. Common, you know, the comedy clueless cemented the brand as the go-to for beautiful young women to assert, you know, independence. So Alicia Silverstones share attempt to leave for a date wearing a thin strap slip dress. That was Calvin Klein, right? Guess who else wore Calvin Klein one year? Rihanna. So um in 2012, Rihanna wore a racy red slip embodied the central and slithy, rebellious nature of the cut. Um, so that was another look. Rihanna wore Calvin Klein. Um, and then there were so many more. Like it just I can just name the names. It's so many. I want to just go down through the gear. So then another one was Kendall Jenner, Pappy Delvagno, Laura Stone, Miranda Kerr, Rumi Neely, Chara for I think it's Chira, Chira or Chaira for Farragani, Fergie, um, also Brooks Shields doing that, you know, back in the day. So these were many of the celebs that were able to wear his brand in style. They all looked amazing. Every last dress, every last look. So now we're going into Vogue. Vogue did another beautiful article on the Calvin Khan collection. And they showed like basically 2025, 2026, 2017. They went back, you know, 2016. They went back to the ready to wear in his collection. Um, and they started off that article, movie going teens in 1985, Catching the Summer, Blockbuster, Back to the Future, walked out of theaters, sure of two things: the possibility of time travel and coolness of Calvin Klein underwear. Like we talked about that earlier. So it was a thing, and that's how the article started, and it was it was amazing. I mean, and this Vogue article basically is showing pictures, and let me just go through some of the looks. So, one of the looks is a ready-to-wear dress, strappy, and it has pockets. This was in 2026. Now, 2025, there was this long Total Neck style, um, Maxi style dress. Um, there's a resource 2017 white coat, it looks double-breasted. This one is cute. There's this in 2016, the menswear, this white pair of pants with this white jacket. It looks really amazing. It's cool, calm, and collective. Now, his spring 2016 ready-to-wear dress, it looks either silver or gold, but the girl is coming down the runway, it's strappy, it's cute, and it's well defined. It's totally Calvin Klein. So let's go into the Zoe report. They did an article as well. Um, in 2025. So they started when I say Calvin Klein, what springs to mind? Fluffied haired teenager Brooke Shields, dressed in a curved, hugging jeans, saucily speaking to a camera, or the simply a slip, the slip slip was a slip dresses, making its way down a 90s-era catwalk. So that's how that article started. And then it went on to talk about different people who wore the Calvin Klein collection and what was behind it. The brand was born, like I told you, early on in the 1960s. Um and it went on to say it took him until about 1975 to find the groove, casually elegant, minimalist sportswear into luxurious fabrics and neutral shades, noted by historian Kimberly Christman Campbell of the company's early days. So then it went on to you know the licensing. Um, according to BOF, Calvin Klein's annual revenue had grown to 30 million. This was within its first 10 years of business. So it was just, I mean, I mean, he started off going through the gate fast. Um, and he remains going through the gate, you know. I'm sure great clothes will often sell themselves, but you know what really sells the deal, basically seals it, adding some of the world's most attractive models, celebrities, and athletes to the equation. So that's what he did. I mean, you gotta add them to the equation so your brand can grow because people are looking at them. So since people are looking at them, they're gonna look at your brand. Um, and that's what he did. He went through every era, he kept reinventing himself. He's a Renaissance man, and he keeps going and leaping over a bunch of bams, just leaps and bams, and moving forward with all types of accessories, shoes, jewelry, hats, slacks, dresses. This week I wore many of his dresses. I love Calvin Klein, and I love all things about his dresses. Now he had um the scent of success as well. So um he has CK1 perfume in the 1990s, is now considered a defining part of the decade, but at the time it represents a sharp turn in the aesthetic of the advertising landscape. So he got the CK, guys, and I know many of you have smelled it. CK has been around forever and worn by many. Now, um, notable Kate Ma's did the campaign, much like the clean Chris Unisex fragrance itself, stood in the stock contrast of the decade um of the 1980s. The tone of the CK1 ads was such a big deal back then. Um, ever go says the casting in particular was very creative and edgy. So his perfume did very well and sealed as well. And Kate Moss helped with it. Now he had a new creative direction. In the early 2003, Klein sold his company to Philip Van Hoosen, um, now known as PVH Court. So I don't know if you knew that happened, but that happened. Um, and things went on and on and on. And 50 years in business, Calvin Klein celebrated its 50 years. Um, it looked to a new generation of beautiful It Boys and Girls to start in megawatt campaigns. You know, the buzzy cast included Kendall Jenner, ASAP Rocky, I repeat, sorry, Kendall Jenner, ASAP Rocky, Lou Wynn, Troy Sylvan, Justin and Haley Bieber, and many more. So moving along, the market continues to grow, and now he has he's paired with um Zendia and many others as Calvin Klein continues to grow. So I'm trying to get to the end because we're almost finished. Um, and as of today, Calvin Klein continues to shine, and his brand will forever be iconic, historical, and we'll love him from the 60s. We've loved him from the 60s all the way up to this era. Um, gotta love Calvin Klein. Part three. I hope you enjoyed the podcast. It was fun um just talking about him. I hope to meet him one day because his brand um is so amazing, and I hope that one day I get to meet Calvin Klein and I get to um continue to wear his brand and continue to hope that he continue to create fashion, jewelry, scents, shoes, and so much more. So thank you for listening.
